Below you can find answers to many common questions in our FAQ library. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, Jasmo Customer Support is always here to help.

My site is currently hosted elsewhere. How do I transfer over to Jasmo Hosting?

Typically when you change hosting companies, it will be necessary to change your domain nameserver settings to reflect that change. It’s like telling the post office you are moving and letting them know of your new address.

If you don’t know how to do this or need help, you should contact the company who you registered your domain name with (or possibly your current webhost provider) and request a nameserver change.

Some domain registrars will provide you with a control panel where you can login and make the changes yourself.

The first order of business* is to point your current domain name servers (DNS) to your new Jasmo Servers. In order to do this, you must log in to your current webhost control panel and locate the DNS settings. Change them from their current settings to point to the new Jasmo nameservers. For example:

Change them from:

Change them to:

Again, if you are unclear how to do this, you will need to contact your current domain registrar or web host provider.

*Note: Before making any sort of server, file or host transfer, we highly recommend making a complete backup of your entire website and all the support files on your current server. This should also inlcude sub-folders, scripts, database files, any any other files that may reside on your server.

How soon will my new Jasmo account be activated?

Usually, you can have your site online the same day you submit your order. Your account will be setup within 4 to 8 hours of your purchase, provided that the order application is accurate and complete.

You will receive your account information via e-mail, at which point you can start on uploading files to the space and preparing your site.

However, it could take a few days for the domain name to point to the account, depending on whether it is a new registration or a domain transfer. All new domain registrations are normally processed within 24 hours of submission. Please allow this time period to elapse prior to requesting information on your account.

In the meantime, if you wish to get started using your new web hosting account, you can use the alternative access method (IP address) to access your cPanel and other accounts.

How do I transfer my existing website’s content to Jasmo Hosting?

If you have been using cPanel with your previous host then you need to create a full backup of your account on the old server, then transfer the backup file via FTP from the old server to your new account with Jasmo.

Please then inform us when this is done and we will restore your account from the backup provided by you.

If you were using another control panel then you need to download your website from the old server onto your local computer.  Then you need to upload your files from your local computer into your Jasmo account which can be done via FTP.

Please email support@jasmo.com if you have any further questions.

How do I set up an email client from my computer, such as Outlook or Entourage or Mac Mail?

Once you’ve created a new email account through cPanel, you can now set up your desktop email client to receive email coming to that new address.

cPanel has a built in “wizard” which attempts to set up your account for you. Log into cPanel and under Mail, click on Email Accounts. Towards the very bottom, right, locate the Functions area and click on Configure Mail Client.

This should bring you to a page where under “Please select an application” you can locate your email client and download a helper application. Locate the helper application on your desktop or downloads folder and double-click to run the installer, then follow the instructions.

If you have questions or need help getting your email setup, please check our Support Page or contact us at support@jasmo.com and we will help you get set up.

What is the cPanel or Control Panel and what can I do with it?

Your cPanel contains most of what you need to manage your site. You can park domains, create subdomains and addon domains, create email accounts, filter email, forward email, create and manage MySQL databases, create and manage mailing lists, easily install several available scripts for forms, forums, guestbooks, etc., change your contact email address, and much more.

This is where you will find your site statistics to see how popular your site is and with whom. It is also where you can see what account resources you have used and how much is left.

How do I password protect a folder?

Within your Jasmo cPanel account, you have the ability to password protect a folder within your website. You can create as many logins as needed for a protected folder.

Under Security, Click on Password Protect Directories. To password protect a directory click on the directory’s name. To protect a sub-directory click on the folder next to the name and then click on the sub-directory’s name.

Do you support SSL?

Yes, we do support SSL. With a SSL certificate you can have a secure encrypted website. You can either purchase your SSL certifcate from a number of companies that specialize in secure online transactions, including VeriSign, Thawte, GeoTrust, and GoDaddy. Please contact us for more information regarding purchase and installation of the certificate.

The SSL security protocol provides data encryption, server authentication, message integrity, and optional client authentication for a TCP/IP connection. Because SSL is built into all major browsers and web servers, simply installing a digital certificate turns on their SSL capabilities.

Can I have a sub domain such as “something.yourdomainname.com”?

Yes, you will be able to have your own sub domain, such as something.yourdomainname.com. A sub domain is basically a subdirectory or folder created inside your FTP area which is a fully operating web site.

The main benefit of a sub domain is that it doesn’t require domain name registration and fees that are associated with a full domain name.
